1. Basic
The websites of "Ukrainian Research in Switzerland" (hereinafter referred to as "URIS") are subject to Swiss data protection law, in particular in accordance with the Federal Data Protection Act (FADP) and the Telecommunications Act (TCA). Personal data is as well always processed in compliance with the Canton of Basel-Stadt’s Information and Data Privacy Act. This data protection notice may be amended at any time by publication on this website. Access to this website is via transport encryption (SSL / TLS). Below you will find information on how we process which data, for what purpose and on what legal basis.

2. Data protection information for visitors to the website
The use of certain features of our website uris.ch, in particular subscribing to the newsletter, may require the collection, processing and long-term storage of personal data, such as your name, address, telephone number or email address. We process this data in accordance with Art. 9 of the Canton of Basel-Stadt’s Information and Data Privacy Act (IDPA) and the corresponding university regulations. This data protection notice applies to these domains: https://www.uris.ch

If and to the extent that the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we process the data:

  • on the basis of legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) or in the public interest (Art. 6(1)(e) GDPR)
  • on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)
  • for the performance of a contract and for appropriate pre-contractual measures (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)

You may revoke any consent you may have granted us for particular services at any time with future effect. Any personal data that has already been collected will be deleted if it is no longer required for the purpose for which it was collected. If there are legal or contractual reasons that prevent the data from being deleted, the data will be blocked instead.

If you would like us to fully delete your personal data, please contact: uris@unibas.ch

3. Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are transmitted from our server or a third-party server to the user’s browser and stored on your end device. With cookies, we automatically collect certain data, such as your IP address, the browser you use, your operating system and your internet connection. The use of cookies increases the user-friendliness and security of the website.

You can check your browser settings to see which cookies the uris.ch website stores and, if necessary, delete them.

4. Collection of personal data when visiting our website
For security reasons, e.g. to investigate cases of misuse and to secure our network infrastructure, certain access data is automatically collected when the unibas.ch website is accessed and stored in a web server log file on the University of Basel’s servers for a period of four months.

In the event of an attack on our network infrastructure, it may be necessary to store these files longer as evidence and for any civil or criminal proceedings against the attacker.

The following access data is collected:

  • website visited
  • date and time accessed
  • browser used
  • operating system used
  • anonymized IP address

5. Social Media
The uris.ch website uses the social media plugins from the providers specified below. You can recognize the plugins by the corresponding logo with which they are marked.

Under some circumstances, information, which may include personal data, is sent via these plugins to the relevant social media provider, who may use this data.

We prevent the automatic and undesired collection and transmission of data to the relevant social media provider by integrating the “Shariff” plugin. Shariff prevents social media plugins integrated in the uris.ch website from creating an automatic connection to the server of the relevant social media provider when users visit the uris.ch website and its subdomains. Direct contact between social media providers and the user of the uris.ch website is only created when the user clicks on the relevant social media button.

uris.ch integrates the following social media plugins:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram

6. Integration of videos, services and content of third parties
It may happen that third-party content, such as videos from YouTube or Vimeo, maps from Google Maps, RSS feeds or graphics from other websites, are integrated within this online offer. This always requires that the providers of this content (hereinafter referred to as "third-party providers") are aware of the IP address of the user. Without the IP address, they could not send the content to the browser of the respective user. The IP address is therefore necessary for the presentation of this content. We endeavour to only use content whose respective providers only use the IP address to deliver the content. However, we have no influence if the third-party providers store the IP address, e.g. for statistical purposes. Insofar as we are aware of this, we inform the users about it.

If you do not wish to disclose any of your data, please log out of your Google account or use a plugin such as Ghostery to block the data exchange. You can find the Google privacy policy here.

Integration of videos

Videos can be used on the website as well as in the members area or for advertising purposes. Videos are a good way to make content more understandable. Hosting the videos locally is not powerful enough, so we use an external provider for this.

Vimeo

For some of our videos we therefore use Vimeo. For technical reasons, clicking on our embedded videos leads to calls to the Vimeo servers. Vimeo sets a cookie in your browser. The purpose of this cookie is to save your settings, e.g. your selected volume or the playback status. This cookie belongs to the category of functional cookies. Vimeo determines which data from your browser or terminal device is used. Vimeo's privacy policy applies in this regard.

We also use videos from YouTube on our website. YouTube is a service provided by YouTube LLC ("YouTube"), 901 Cherry Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. YouTube LLC is a subsidiary of Google Ireland Limited ("Google"), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. YouTube is integrated by embedding the service on our website using a so-called "iFrame". When loading this iFrame, YouTube and Google may collect and process information (including personal data). It cannot be ruled out that YouTube or Google also transmits the information to a server in a third country.

Information on the existing Privacy Shield certification of Google and other relevant data on data processing by Google in the context of the use of Google services can be found in this privacy policy under the section "Information on Google services".

By integrating YouTube, we pursue the purpose of being able to present various videos to you on our website so that you can watch them directly on our website. The legal basis for the processing of personal data described here is the DSG. Our necessary legitimate interest lies in the great benefit that YouTube offers. By integrating external videos, we relieve our servers and can use corresponding resources elsewhere. Among other things, this can increase the stability of our servers. YouTube and Google also have a legitimate interest in the (personal) data collected in order to improve their own services. You can find more detailed information in the data protection notices of YouTube and Google, which you can access here: www.google.com/policies/privacy/

7. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics on our website, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited ("Google"), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics uses "cookies", which are text files placed on your device, to help the website analyse how users use the site. Google Analytics may also use so-called web beacons (invisible graphics). These web beacons can be used to analyse information such as visitor traffic to websites. The information generated by cookies and web beacons about the use of our website (including the user's IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States or other third countries. This information may be passed on by Google to Google's contractual partners.

Information on the existing Privacy Shield certification of Google and other relevant data on data processing by Google in the context of the use of Google services can be found in this privacy policy under the section "Information on Google services".

The following types of data are processed by Google:

  • Online identifiers (including cookie identifiers).
  • IP address

We only use Google Analytics with activated IP anonymisation ("anonymize IP"). This means that your IP address is shortened by Google within Europe. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. Furthermore, we have concluded an order processing agreement with Google for the use of Google Analytics (Art. 28 DSGVO). Google processes the data on our behalf for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for us and providing us with other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. By integrating Google Analytics, we pursue the purpose of analysing user behaviour on our website and being able to react to this. This enables us to continuously improve our offer. The legal basis for the processing of personal data described here is the DSG. In the context of commissioned processing, Google is entitled to engage subcontractors. A list of these subcontractors can be found at https://privacy.google.com/bus...

The information processed will only be stored for as long as necessary for the intended purpose or as required by law.
